Carol conducted her first mediation when she was in high school. Since that time she has served as an arbitrator, early neutral evaluator or mediator in approximately 150 cases. She has served as a neutral in cases including theft of trade secrets, unfair competition, contract performance disputes, malpractice, and public and private employment disputes including sex discrimination, harassment, and wrongful termination. In addition to mediation generated by litigation, she conducts in-house mediations between management and employees and between business units. Beginning in 1979, Carol conducted arbitrations under the Attorney/Commercial Rules Project of the American Arbitration Association in Dallas, Texas and served as Vice Chairman of the Dallas Civil Service Board, where she conducted over one hundred appeal hearings over four years involving demotions and terminations. After law school she conducted arbitrations in the Sacramento, California area, with the Juvenile Offender Project of the California Youth Authority. Law Practice Experience Carol has worked as a business attorney in the Silicon Valley since 1989, including service as senior in-house counsel in an NYSE high tech company. She has advised emerging companies and individuals on day-to-day business decisions ranging from contracts, theft of trade secrets, strategic licensing, and business reversals to violence in the workplace and wrongful termination. In addition, she has represented municipal entities as outside counsel to the city attorney and county counsel. Carol represents clients in negotiation of agreements involving strategic alliances, research and development of semiconductor capital equipment, telecommunications and microwave electronics products. Her experience in the Pacific Rim includes the construction of a research and demonstration facility in Kawasaki, Japan and the establishment of business entities across Asia and Europe. In addition, she has handled labor and employment matters for international clients, including a sex harassment case in Asia. Education
